The Community and Research Network (CARN) is a network of health professionals, health consumers, researchers and lived experience community members, seeking to share their expertise and experience to promote good health and wellbeing for the community of the Greater Geelong Region. We facilitate connections between the research and lived experience communities to ensure those with lived experience have a say in how research projects are designed and for researchers to be able to present their findings to the appropriate audience.
CARN’s membership is broad, spanning across research groups, health providers, community organisations and consumers. Some of CARN’s current member organisations include: Deakin University, Barwon Health, GMHBA, City of Greater Geelong, Rotary Districts of Australia, The Anxious Bird, and GenU Training.
Last year CARN launched the Student Seminar Series. If you haven’t been before, these seminars give up-and-coming researchers a chance to share their work outside of academic circles, and the rest of a chance to hear about the next generation of research: from thunderstorm asthma, to how nutrition affects our mental and physical health. Each seminar features two students sharing their research, without all the frills and jargon of a usual research presentation.
