The CADET-UD Trial is investigating whether candesartan (compared to a placebo) helps to reduce symptoms of major depression and improve quality of life. Major depressive disorder may, in part, be caused by inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain. Candesartan, a commonly used blood pressure medication, may help to reduce the inflammation and oxidative stress and restore some neuronal function. Candesartan may be beneficial in reducing symptoms of major depression.
The CADET-UD Trial has clinics in Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney and Brisbane and is looking for participants 18 years or older with a diagnosis of major depressive disorder to take part. Whilst on the study our participants trial candesartan medication or placebo, in addition to their usual treatments, for 16 weeks and meet with a researcher for up to 7 visits at one of our clinics. There is no cost to take part in the trial, and once enrolled our participants receive a small re-imbursement for travel expenses.
